Color of the week: bright light blue

I'm guilty of being too comfortable in my eye shadow choices. I always go for pastels and neutrals and shy away from bright colours. Like I said in another post, I do have a tricky eye shape to work with and I usually reserve bright colours for the lips. This is why every Sunday from now on I will do two full looks featuring a bright selected colour. I will also try to avoid pairing it with too much taupes and browns.

For this week, I decided to start with the queen of scary colour, bright light blue, the typical 80's blue.

The first look I decided to do is a beachy look with a light blue eyeliner. For this look I used the following products:

On the face I started my look with a bit of tinted moisturizer. Then I used Make up forever HD blush in number 14 which is a light apricot colour. I then finished my face with Tarte stellar bronzer (limited edition) all over the face.

I used revlon lip butter in peach parfait on the lips a beige peachy pink sparkly colour. Because the eyeliner is quite a statement color I kept the rest of the eye make up softer. I applied the middle colour from the bottom row of elf baked eyeshadow palette in california. It's an antique gold colour. I then lined the lower lash line with the sephora waterproof flashy eyeliner in 08 flashy blue. I finished everything with mascara.

Here's a close up on the eye look. It's really hard to capture the eye make up when my eyes are open because of my eye shape (I have to half close my eye or you wouldn't see anything)

The eye colours swatched

And of course the whole look

For the second look I decided to pair light blue eye shadow with a plum colour and stained lips. Here's the keys products I used for this look.

I started by using a medium coverage foundation corrector and concealer. I  then lightly powdered my face and used Essence silky touch blush in 40 Natural beauty.

I then primed my eyes with Urban decay primer potion, followed Make up forever star powder in number 955, a gorgeous plum colour with a light blue duochrome, on my crease. This is my favorite eye shadow of all my stash.  I then used the light blue colour of an old discontinued Shiseido quad. I then used a bit of black eyeliner very close to the lash line and I finished the look with mascara.

I finished the look with 2B lipstick in violet flame used lightly as a stain.

Here's a close up on the eyes

Swatch of the eye colors, this is a very transparent blue eyeshadow I used it wet on the lids.

And finally the whole look

I actually really enjoyed wearing that colour and I will definitely wear it more often in the future!

  2. Yay for playing with color! I think that a little color on the lower lash line is a great way to incorporate some playfulness in your look.

  4. I agree, it's also quick to do. When you do a full eye look with many colours it takes quite a while to do.
