The hardest thing in makeup is to get your base right. You need to find the good level of coverage, the right finish, the right tone and undertone and make sure your skin doesn't get any adverse reaction. Even though I have a ridiculously big make up collection, I do try not to accumulate too much foundations and I'm often on a challenge to finish a particular foundation.

For years I've been mistakenly "accused" of having a pink undertone, because my face has quite a lot of redness. A bit over a year ago, I realized that my skin was in fact neutral leaning on yellow and some of my favorite foundations had the wrong undertone. Always match your foundation with your chest and neck.

To understand how to neutralize something, you need to know about color theory. To opposite colors on the color wheel cancel each other. Therefor, to remove the red pigment from a foundation, you need to neutralize it with green. If you need your foundation to be yellow, you need to first use some green adjuster and then add some yellow. Various professional brands offer color adjusters that you can mix with your foundation.

Because I'm not a professional make up artist and that I don't have that many pink foundation left, I decided to neutralize my foundation with a green primer and then finish it with a yellow finishing powder. If you have strong yellow undertone though, buying adjusters might be a good investment. Women with fair skin tend to have less strong undertones.
I previously review OCC lip tar in Queen previously and everything I said for this lipstick is applicable for this shade too. It is insanely pigmented, ultra long wearing (a solid 8 hours on me) and BRIGHT! This shade is a neon fushia pink that is rightfully named anime. Out of the two lip tars, this shade favorite, it is actually my favorite bright lipstick period. I wore this in France last weekend and I got a lot of looks. This is definitely a shade that you need to wear with confidence.

I'm not somebody who uses primers on a regular basis. My skin is quite dry and my pores are normal size and I don't see the necessity. I also need quite a solid medium coverage and I try to not layer too much. I already have quite an intricate skin care routine!

I do however love a nice healthy glow, so when I had the occasion to exchange my sephora points for a deluxe sample I was trilled! Laura Mercier is all about the skin and she has a very good selection of primers. She has two radiance primer, a pinkish shade and this bronze shade.

The first time I applied the radiance bronze I was chocked in a good way by the pigmentation. I don't think this particular shade was intended for really pale ladies like me. (I'm around an NC15) Now I mix it with my foundation and it warms up nicely the shade and gives a really nice glow.
Overall, I really like this primer. It's a very nice creamy texture that doesn't feel at all like silicone. It can be used under, mixed or over foundation. I do find the price in Belgium outrageous compared to the United States though. I might purchase it when I run out, but not at over 40 euros!

I don't think I ever posted a personal post before, but I think this is an issue that touches a lot of people and I think sharing makes it easier.

I've always struggled with my weight. I was a big baby who was constantly hungry. As a kid I was always the tallest one of my class till 6th grade and I was always hungry. I'm actually not that tall (1m74 or 5'8 1/2), but I did grow up faster than most kids and developed puberty younger than most girls. I'm an emotional eater.

My parents divorced when I was 8 and I kept on eating. One year later my Father left to live one year in France, I missed my dad a lot and kept on eating. Then I went to visit him and he was chocked by my weight and controlled my food. I lost around 10 pounds which is a lot for a 10 years old. Almost a year later my maternal Grandmother died of unnatural causes and I took the weight back and then some!

In my teens I lost and gained back some weight at least 3 times. I actually never knew life without the yo-yo effect. At 17 years old, I left my small town to move to Montreal for my school. I decided to lose weight and I kept it low (with a lot of variations of course) till I was around 23 years old.

At 21 years old in a shitty pub

When I was around 25 I started to gain dangerously weight, plummeting to a size 20 (22UK 50 in EU). I lost back some weight two years later and kept it stable at a size 16 till recently.

At my biggest ever at 26 years old

In November I decided to resume my weight lost and come back to a healthy weight. I lost 30 pounds (13,6 kilos) so far.

Realizations

To end up on a positive note here are some realizations that are currently helping me to carry-on smoothly with the weight loss:

Exercise is good but doesn't make you loose weight. Your body as a tendency to compensate by spending less energy the rest of the day and making you hungry. I lost weight many many times, but never significantly by going to the gym.

Diets do not work. Counting calories isn't sustainable and the weight always creeps back up. You can't succeed by being constantly hungry.

If you do not loose weight one week it might be water retention, but it certainly isn't muscle gain! You do not gain a pound of muscle in a week!

When it comes to mac, I always had a tendency to stick to their eyeshadows and lipglosses. I know that about 90% of beauty bloggers seem to prefer lipsticks over lipglosses, but I personally prefer the glosses. However, when I want to go for a smokey eye, I prefer something a little more low profile on my lips.

Creme cup is part of the cremesheen finish from mac, which is essentially a satin finish. The shade is a milky nude pink that will look more pink or more beige depending on you lips. It has the classic vanilla sent from mac, but the sent isn't overwhelming. On me, it looks like a pale soft pink. It is quite similar in shade to the infamous Angel, the favorite shade of Kim Kardashian

The staying powder of this lipstick is quite average, I would say about 3 hours, which is common with pale shades. I does end up having the white ring inside your lips. It's definitely a shade you need to touch up every few hours. I don't think the formula is at fault for this, it's just the nature of pale shades.

Allergie season can you tell?

Overall, I'm really please with this lipstick, the shade is very pretty and it feels great on the lips. It's the type of shade that will remind you that you need a teeth bleaching because of the mauve undertone. Like with other lipsticks from mac, I find the texture perfect, it's not too creamy that it has a tendency too fly all over your lips; and not too dry that it looks very dry when you wear it on. I love wearing this with a translucent beige gloss on top.Judithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03214451397143966803noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4908918720204607979.post-16810691408523364232014-05-20T10:24:00.001+02:002014-05-20T10:24:19.888+02:00My favorite warm shades for the summer for eyes, lips and cheeks.

I'm back after a small hiatus, I decided to stop coffee and the withdrawals symptoms were not pretty! Now that I'm back to my normal self, I will catch up on my reading. I'm looking forward to reading your latest posts.

Those of you who have been reading me for a while, will have noticed that I'm really into pinks and cool toned shades in general. Once in a blue moon I do like to get out of my comfort zone; and the three following products are my favorites in their respective category.

Inglot pearl eyeshadow 407 is one of my favorite shade. If you are a fan of duochromes, this is definitely a nice one and it's very pigmented buttery and smooth. The staying power is also incredible. The pearl finish from Inglot is definitely my favorite one. The shade is a peach with a golden reflection, it looks more gold or more peach depending on the lighting.

I already talked about the Lancôme Blush subtil in Miel glacé. It's a shade that has been discontinued in the European market, but not in North America. Lancôme is not a brand I usually go for, except for mascara. I always associated the brand with ladies in their fifties. I'm happy to say that I was wrong. Their line of blushes is really nice, smooth and easy to blend. They are also easy to build up. This particular shade is a brownish apricot with a satin finish. I like that it's not too bright and it does a great job at hiding my redness on my cheeks and giving me a warm glow.

I think that in my collection of 30+ lip products, less than 5 are truly warm toned. This Lipglass from mac in Lychee Luxe is one of them. It's a very nice coral shade with a subtil shimmer. Depending on your lips it will look more orange or more pink. Like the rest of the lipglasses the finish is sticky and it lasts a solid 4 hours.

As you can see by the look above, all those shades go very well with each other. I'm wearing some bronzer in my eye crease and a bright purple eyeliner in the lower lash line.

I just wanted to announce that I started a new blog in French called Pinceaux et cie. As most of you may know, I'm from Montreal and my first language is French. I also speak German and very basic Dutch.

I'm still adapting to my new Country and I can't say that I have a lot of friends yet, so I spend most of my weekends alone. (My husbands often works on weekends, he works in the shipping industry) Blogging definitely keeps me busy and help me to share my passion with equally passionate people.

I hesitated between just alternating my paragraphs between French and English on my blog, but I decided against it. I find it easier to read in only one language.

The posts will be very similar to the posts here, so you don't need to follow both.

À bientôt
I have chronically chapped lips, I kid you not! The problem

If you are a fan the natural look, then a finishing brush is a must. Once you are done with your face routine, use a clean, ideally flat large brush to smooth out everything and blend out the edges and removing extra powder. I like to use a big fan brush for that. This is what I do to smooth out my blush after taking pictures for my blog. (I always apply blushes heavier than in real life for pictures).
I always though that a finishing spray was rubbish, but now I'm a convert! If you have oily skin (and use a formula aimed at that) it can make your make up last longer. If you have dry skin than it makes the powdery look go away and give you a subtle glow. I personally like Fix + from MAC for the dewy look, it doesn't however make your make up stay longer.

This is one of those steps I rarely bother with, but when I go for an extra intense lip, like with a bright OCC lip tar, I always apply reverse lip liner. It makes the lips look more defined and limits feathering. If you don't have one, you can use a creamy concealer around the lips.

I used to not believe in skin care and buy the cheapest good quality product I can find. All I was doing is cleansing and moisturizing, usually with a moisturizer by Avene, La Roche Posay or Vichy.

Lately I started reading the actual science behind skin care and found that once of the most universally loved ingredient, both by research and consumer review, was vitamin C. I started to research a serum that I could use underneath my sunscreen. Vitamin C helps protecting your skin against free radical and improve the efficiency of sunscreen. The thing is, most options out there are at least in the 40 euros range. I also had a couple of moisturizer without sunscreen to finish. This is why I decided to go for the Philosophy Turbo booster C powder which retails for 28 euros in Belgium.

The product comes in a little tinted glass bottle with a little spoon. It is made to be mixed with your serum or moisturizer. I personally like to mix it with a lightweight lotion. Philosophy recommends using half a spoon to a full spoon. Some people are a bit sensitive to the for of vitamin C used and I recommend starting with half a spoon and building it up. What is great about this product is that the form of vitamin C is stabalized and won't loose potency with time.

Active Ingredients

The powder contains the following active ingredients:

- Ascorbic acid and panthenol, both form of vitamin C which are powerful antioxidant and can have a brightening effect on some people
- Zinc PCA, a skin-conditionning agent that can supress collagenase (an exyme that destroys the collagen in the skin). It can also help suppress excess oil
- Argine, an amino acid that has antioxydant properties and can help healing the skin
- Green tea extract another antioxidant
- Aloe an humectant it helps bringing moisture to the skin.

Results

I've been using this powder for over two months and I can definitely see an improvement in my skin. My skin feels also very soft and firm and less dull. I stopped using it on vacation for two weeks and I saw an improvement right away when I used it again.

I know 28 euros might be a lot of money for some of you, but it lasts forever. I'm not even half way through the bottle after using the powder everyday!

Most of what they are offering is really pigmented and long wearing. They also have a lot of fun young colors in the range. Their eyeshadows are available in matte, shimmer, satin and diamond. Today I will be reviewing two of the shades from the diamond range (metallic finish) 311 diamond burgundy and 302 diamond turquoise. I bought them in a refill for 14,90 euros and the eyeshadow contains 2.5g.

311 Diamond burgundy

Even though it is called burgundy, this is really more of a plum shade. It's a shimmery dark reddish plum with small silver glitters. The pigmentation is even and applies very smoothly. I usually use this shade as a crease shade, with a pale beige pink on the lid. I actually bought this one in Canada years ago and it used to be a personal favorite, till I bought star violet from MAC, my favorite reddish plum.

Diamond burgundy is not as shimmery as some other diamond shadow, which makes it wearable to add some dept to a look.
I used it as a smoky eye to show the color better. I paired it with a charcoal color. But like I said I prefer this on my crease and outer V.

This eyeshadow is definitely less work appropriate than the diamond burgundy, but it's so gorgeous! I like to wear it with warms browns or navy (my favorite combo). If you are a turquoise fan this one is for you! It's a medium blue turquoise with small gold glitter. This one applies also very shimmery and metallic. I hesitated between this one and the infamous 168 which is a bit darker, more pigmented and more green, but I already own a lot of greenish aqua shades, I wanted something that leans more blue.

On this look I applied it wet and paired it with a navy demi-matte shade. I'm wearing sephora flashy liner in flashy blue on the lower lash line layer with the two shadows. I think it's a great eyeshadow for the summer paired with bronzed skin.

I really like those two eyeshadows from make up for ever.If I had to recommend one I would go for the turquoise. I personally find the plum and burgundy options from MAC to be a bit more special. (They do however give you much less for a similar price).

Make up for ever also has some gorgeous greens in the diamond finish if you are into those sort of shades.Judithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03214451397143966803noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4908918720204607979.post-49521930161477038272014-05-08T08:42:00.001+02:002014-05-08T19:25:59.237+02:00Illamasqua blush up brush and highlighter brush

As you know, I'm a recent contouring convert. One of the most frustrating things when you have a short face is finding brushes precise enough for the face. I did own the mac 168 brush (which I gave away to my best friend with already amazing cheek bones), but it was simply too big for my face. That's why I was very happy to find out about those two lovely illamasqua brushes.

The Illamasqua brushes are all vegan, synthetic fibers and they look very sleek with their black handle and ferule (both made out of plastic). The fibers are also the softest synthetic brush I own, especially the highlighter brush and I own quite a few by Ecotools, real techniques, elf and the infamous MAC 187. They also have the name of the brushes written in small letters in English and French. Isn't the name "pinceau élévateur" chic or what?

Illamasqua recommends using this brush with powder brush, but everybody seems to be using this for contour. I quite like this brush, but it's definitely a one trick pony. The bristles are super dense and cut slightly oval, great for a concave surface like the hollows of the cheeks. It works really well for that purpose. I prefer to lay down the color with this brush and blend it with another brush. It works for both powder and cream, but it's easier to work with cream because of the density of the brush.
This retails for 28,50 pounds, but I got it in a online promotion on Illamasqua website called build your own blusher set. You have the choice between most of their powder blushes and a choice of three of their blush brush for 35 pounds.

The highlighter brush is so, so soft. It's a small dense brush with an oval ferule and an oval shape. This brush is very versatile. You can use it to buff in your foundation, with powder and cream highlighter, for contouring, precise application of light pigmentation blushes etc. I prefer the Real techniques contour brush for contouring, because it is less dense. My favorite ways of using this brush is with cream and liquid highlighter and to blend my contour. We often have a collection full of blending brushes for the eyes, but nothing for precise blending on the face. I also used it with cream blush when I was traveling and it was lovely for that as well.

I can not think of any brush on the high street that is a dupe of this brush. It's smaller than the mac 109.

Overall I am super satisfied with my Illamasqua brushes. I was hesitant to pay so much for synthetic bristles, when you can get good brushes from the high street, but those brushes are definitely in a category of their own. The highlighter brush is really a must have for my shorter face shape and the brush up brush is a great and well made novelty brush for the brush lovers out there!

Stila convertable color is the last thing I picked up in London. They are a lip to cheek cream product similar to the Bobbi Brown pot rouge, but more creamy. I was really excited to see the blushes, especially when I realized that they were sold for only 16 pounds. In Canada, with the taxes they retail for almost $38 at Sephora. Every blush comes in a small compact with a mirror. The color of the compact matches the color of the blush, which is pretty neat if you have more than one blush. Each compact contains 4,5 g of product.

The color lillium is one of the most unique of the bunch. It's a warm beige pink with a hint of peach. I picked it up, because I didn't have any warm blushes it my collection. It's one of those color that's impossible to overdo.

They staying power of this is great. What I like to do is powder my face everywhere except where I put the blush to keep my face dewy and try to fake some cheekbones. I'm also wearing illamasqua hollow as a contour on the pictures below. The blush is really easy to blend and to apply. I like to apply it with a small synthetic brush, but it works also really well with the fingers.
I know I've been reviewing quite a few face products lately, but I think summer is all about dewy and fresh skin. As you can see I also warmed up my lip and eyeshadow color and played a bit out of my comfort zone. I must say that I love it.
If you are into traditional creamy blushes I think the Stila are a good option at a relative good price. They also have a lot of unique shades, some very brights and others with brown and beige undertones.Judithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03214451397143966803noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4908918720204607979.post-1843559864930621672014-05-04T18:38:00.001+02:002014-05-05T12:04:13.396+02:00Clinique city block sheer FPS 25 reviewLately I've been quite obsessed by skin care. If there is one thing every person needs to slow down aging is a good full spectrum sunscreen. Only two ingredients block completely UVA rays Avobenzone (chemical) and zinc oxide (physical). Titanium dioxide is also a physical sunscreen (reflects the rays instead of absorbing them) but it only blocks shorter UVA rays and doesn't block the longer rays. The advantage of using physical sunblock is that it's milder for the skin, the only problem is the dreaded white cast.

Clinique sheer contains both Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide and is tinted to avoid the white cast. It does not contain any chemical sunscreen, perfume or oils. You can use it on it's own as a daily moisturizer underneath sunscreen, but I like to layer my skin care. It also contains anti-oxidants. The packaging contains 40ml for 22,50 euros.

What about the dreaded white cast?
Clinique thought of everything and gave a tint to the moisturizer. It also helps evening out my skin.
Here's my bare skin after all my skin care except city block.
Suqqu is a Japanese make up brand. All of their brushes are made with grey squirrel hair which is quite soft and rare. It is rumored that the brushes are made by Chikuhodo. Suqqu brushes are know to be the softest of the soft even more so than Hakuhodo and other prestige Japanese brands.
Is this brush a must have? Absolutely not. You do not need such insanely expensive brushes. But this is by far my favorite brush of my collection! I use it everyday since I bought it. I don't think I'll ever buy such luxurious brushes ever again, but this one will definitely keep a praised spot in my collection.

Illamasqua cream pigments are interesting products. They come in the classic Illamasqua shape and are multipurpose products. It retails for 17,50 pounds and contains 10 grams of product. Depending on the color they can serve different purposes like under eye correct, redness corrector, eyeshadow and blush. I chose the the color hollow which is a light taupe color (the top layer is more brown then it actually is) and does a great contouring color.

Because I have a lot of cream Blushes I wanted a color that I could easily blend with my blush and keep everything very natural. Illamasqua makes also a darker shade called delerium that can also be used for contouring on darker skin tone.
¸

Here it us applied heavily without any blush

Then blended with a bit of cream blush

Of course on those pictures I applied it heavier than I normally would , but you can see how natural the color looks and that it look like a real shadow. I would say that the staying power is better than powder contour. You can also layer them if you have a night out, Judithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03214451397143966803noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4908918720204607979.post-53270575972895925812014-04-28T22:47:00.000+02:002014-04-28T22:47:53.474+02:00Mac half lash curler review and demo

Today I decided to do short review on MAC half curler. I painfully tried to find review for this and very few women actually reviewed it. As the name states, this is a half size eyelash curler. It retails for 14 euro and comes with a cushion refill. The curler is also not very round compared to my full size curler.

Next to a full size curler (from Make up for ever)

When I bought it, the sales person was surprised and said that this was usually for "asian eyes" whatever that means. Well I'm happy to report that lashes are lashes and it works fine on me! As you may have figured it out already, this curler permits you to curl only a section of your lashes and to reach the corners. This curler is also good for small eyes and deep set eyes. With my deep set eyes, it's hard to curl the lashes with a full size curler without my brow bone in the way.

To be able to demonstrate what it does, I used the same mascara primer and mascara for the three lash look.
Only the outer corner with the half curler

As you can see, with the full size curler it gives me more of a doll effect and with the half curler it helps giving the illusion that my eyes are less round and more elongated. I actually like both looks, depending on what I'm going for. You can of course do all your lashes with the half curler as well!

I'm actually liking the look of my eyes like this, weather I'm going for the half or full look. I should try doing this more often.

When I was in London and Scotland, one of my goals was to find products that I couldn't find in Belgium. If there is one thing that is really hard to find in Belgium is good quality affordable brushes and accessories. I knew I would pick up the core set from real techniques (I did three boots to find it, all on the infamous Oxford street), but I was pleasantly surprised by the brush roll.

The vintage flower design brush roll has a plastic finish. It's a pretty traditional brush roll that is foldable in three. You can put 12 brushes (or pencil) and it has a little zipped pouch. I find it good to carry my cotton pads. You can buy it on Boots international that ships in most European country and retails for 10 pounds.
As you can see the elastic size are made for standard handle here shown with some mac, quo, sephora, ecotools and illamasqua brushes (that I will review soon because they are quite unique). It won't fit those big real technique face brushes handles. Overall this is all I can hope for in a brush roll and I love how cute it is.

The real technique brushes have been reviewed, reviewed and reviewed some more, so I will try to be succinct and give you my personal experience of them. The come in their own travel pouches and contain four brushes: contour , pointed foundation, detailer brush and buffing brush. They sale an expert face brush separately that is very similar to the buffing brush only with shorter and denser bristles. All the brushes are made with taklon cruelty free synthetic fibers. I bought the set at boots for 21.99 pounds, but you can find those brushes literally everywhere online.

The contour brush is small face brush. The brush is tapered completely round since the ferule isn't pinched. The bristles are very dense and very soft. The brush as the perfect size for my face size.

You can use it in different ways:

- With setting powder for small areas of the face like under eye
- With powder contour
- With cream contour and highlighter (where it excels).

I use this one mostly with highlighter, because I have other synthetic contour brushes, but it does a fantastic with contour as well. This is not for sale separately and is the main reason I picked up the set, instead of only the expert face brush.

Pointed foundation brush

This is the least essential brush of the set, but it's still nice. It's just a small paddle type of brush. It's mostly useful to apply concealer in larger area like in a triangle shape under the eyes or to cover larger patches of redness or uneven skin. You can also use it with liquid highlighter for precise placement.

This brush is really, really small. It's nice and firm and it really excels at apply concealer in very small areas like the inner corners of the eyes and on a pimple. It also makes a fantastic lip brush. This brush apply a lot of product on a very small area.

The expert face brush is the most popular brush from real techniques and I understand why. It is adviced on the package to use it with mineral foundations, but almost everybody uses it to buff liquid foundation. It really gives an airbrush finish. Because I have dry skin, I don't buff with this brush. I use this brush to spread my foundation, just like with a flat foundation brush. It works perfectly that way and does not leave any streak.

Anyway, I hope I didn't ramble too much. Brushes are really one of my favorite thing!

Sleek is really something that was on my wishlist when I went to the UK. You can buy it over there in Superdrug. I chose this palette because I found it very interesting (especially the bottom row) and really wearable (especially the top row). Like all sleek palettes it comes with a pretty classic applicator and the name of the shadows are on a plastic insert.

All of the shadows in this palette are really pigmented except Adam's apple. Three eyeshadows are matte: flora, adam's apple and tree of life. Two are matte with sparkles (but they don't translate much when you apply them): forbidden and entwined. The other half is quite shimmery.

This palette is also out of the ordinary, because it doesn't contain any highlight shade, making all colors wearable for women of color. I was really impressed with this palette it excels in the big three: pigmentation, staying power and blendability. All the colors also appears the same color on the skin, all that dark matte green shade keeps looking green no matter how much you blend it. The two dark matte shades are so pigmented and smooth and make great eyeliner. I find that the shades are especially nice for hazel, brown and black eyes.

Illamasqua is a British brand that is available on sephora US and Canada and on their website illamasqua.com. They are especially know for their blushes. If you sped for more than 50 pounds they ship for free internationally. I bought this blush with my own money as always.

I heard great things about their blushes, especially on that color that is suppose to go with everything and is entirely matte. The color is a soft beige neutral pink. It's a nice color that will never clash with your look.

If you are somebody that likes smooth and almost creamy powder blush, you will not like the formula, because it is quite dry. I tried to apply it without powdering my face first and it was a disaster. However, because it is a dryer powder it has an awesome staying power, the best I've ever seen.

Illamasqua naked rose with tarte dollface on the right and benefit dandelion on the left

As you can see by the above picture the blush is very similar to benefit dandelion, but it's more pigmented and matte (Benefit is a satin finish) and it has the same intensity as Tarte Dollface, but the latter is more pink.

To be honest, I really do like this blush, but like I said earlier it can be tough to blend if you don't prep your skin properly. I do like how pigmented the color is and it is a worthy successor to my dandelion that is running quite low. I'm not sure however that I will try other powder blushes from illamasqua. When it comes to matte blushes, the best formula I found so far remains the amazonian clay blushes by Tarte.

Illamasqua also makes so really bright colors like pure reds that would look awesome on women with darker skin and maybe for those colors it would be worth the purchase.

Last month I received a gift certificate from MAC. Since my make up collection is quite full, I tried to go for something I might almost need. I actually only own two setting powder, which is the category of product I have the least of (with brow fillers). Both of my current setting powder were in the loose form. I went to MAC thinking that I would go with the mineralize skin finish natural, but MAC is currently out of the color light plus since they are redoing the packaging. I wanted a powder that was pressed and yellow toned so I went with their new prep + prime CC colour correcting compact in the color neutralize.

The new range includes, primers, loose powder and pressed powder available in four shade for different color correcting needs. The pressed compact contains 8g of products and retails for 21.50 euros. This is not a talc based powder and the first ingredient is zinc stearate. The powder feels quite lightweight and dry, which I like since it doesn't cake up.

To test the actual color correcting ability of the powder I put it on top of a too pink foundation:

As you can see in the first picture my face is too pink compared to my neck and chest. After the powder my face looks more neutral (the cakiness is due to the foundation the powder doesn't cake up). The effect is quite subtle so you don't have to worry that you will end up looking jaundiced. When I use this powder in combination with MAC fix + setting spray I have a nice glow to my skin.

I think this is quite a good powder for slightly dry to slightly oily skin. I recommend trying it out in this shade if you have moderate redness or you need to finish up too pink foundations like I do! The powder also doesn't oxidize and I do not need to touch it up (but I can also easily go without powder).

But it can be applied very softly.

I never paid much attention to Bobbi Brown. I always been more of a lip and eyes girl and Bobbi brown is all about the skin.

For those of you not familiar with her philosophy here it is in a nutshell:

Moisturize, moisturize and moisturize some more!

All skin are yellow toned, buy yellow tone foundation

Use a corrector to conceal and then layer a brightening concealer (both before foundation)

Fix your foundation with a skin color powder (avoid those white silica one) and add a bronzer lightly all over the face and down the neck

Use three eyeshadows light, medium, dark and some eyeliner (either the dark eyeshadow or a gel for more drama). Go softer under the eye

Add a pop of color either with lips or a bright blush right on the apple and blend towards the hairline and downwards

She's a big fan of "power brows" and recommends using an eyeshadow to fill the brows

Only use very black mascara and use 2-3 coats on the top lashes and 1-2 on the bottom lashes.

Use a lip color close to your natural pink color. She loves pinky-browns.

Alright, so with all of that in mind here's the look I came up with by following her rules:

And now onto the blush...

The pot rouge have been around for for a while. They are meant to be use for the lips or cheeks, but like most products of the sort it's better for the cheeks. They recently changed the glass jar/screw cap packaging for a flip black plastic case with a mirror and reduced the quantity by three fold without reducing the price! I paid 27 euros for 3.3g of product (actually I paid 2 euros I had a birthday gift certificate from work).

The color pale pink is actually a medium cool pink. On my dry skin this lasts all day. The texture is quite thick and is best applied with a synthetic brush. The blush can be applied before powder or after (I'm wearing it after on top of powder and bronzer). The blush doesn't feel sticky at all. It's quite similar to the stila color convertible products, but apparently this is less greasy. I think this would actually be suitable for most skin types.

Overall I really like this blush despite the price. I really like cream blushes in general on my dry skin. The only thing that restrains me from running buying other pot rouge is the fact that cream blushes needs to be tossed after two years unlike powder that do not go bad.

As you know I recently placed an order on Paula's Choice website testing three products, two of which being skin care. I tried to review this palette quite fast since it's a limited edition.

The nude matte palette is a palette consisting of 11 matte shade and one shimmer highlight. The palette has true neutral shade, meaning that you won't find plum or green leaning neutrals. In that sense it is a true basic.

I have to say that I did carefully read the reviews prior to shedding 40 euros on that palette. All reviews except one were raves. A couple of mature ladies even said that they will throw away all their other eyeshadows, because they finally found something that was working for them!

This palette is average, the eyeshadows are not chalky on the skin, the colors accommodate a variety of skin tone and the quantity of eyeshadow is quite generous for the price. You get 17 grams which is about 1.4g per eyeshadow (MAC eyeshadow contain 1.5g as a comparison). BUT I wouldn't be as crazy as some of the review. The palette comes in quite a cheap cardboard packaging and the eyeshadow do not compare to my make up for ever or bare mineral ready matte eyeshadows. To be honest they aren't the easiest to work with. I could not get any decent swatches, so I'm sorry for the lack of swatches pictures. The eyeshadow were really sticking to my (dry skin!) fingers and refused to transfer.

What you do get though is a no nonsense palette, that's very wearable and that can be combined to your heart's content. I'm particularly found of the lighter shades, which are smoother and have a better pigmention. The black is also very pigmented, but it doesn't blend very well. I will save that one to use as an eyeliner. I tried to do a smokey eye with it and it was a major fiasco. This palette was created with the help of the youtube beauty guru Wayne Goss, which I've been following for years.

That grey shade is the worst of the bunch it took me 15 minutes of worth for that eye look!

Overall, this palette is nice but not a must buy, unless you don't have a lot of neutrals in your collection. The shades are easier to apply tapped with a flat brush (like mac 239) than swiped, because they are very hard to blend, especially the darker half. Personally, this palette could have been a must have if the shades were easier to blend. When I'm in a rush in the morning I don't have time to fight with my eyeshadows, because they stick a bit too much to the lid.

I'm not a bronzer girl, every time I tried I failed miserably. I never looks quite right. I tried rimmel, bare escentuals warmth and even the famous benefit hoola with no luck. I gave them all away to girls with a more suitable skin tone. That's why I was very afraid to shell 59 euro on another experiment (I actually had gift certificates and coupon so I ended up spending 3 euros of my own money).

Guerlain is THE bronzer reference, they apparently invented it in 1984. They have a wide offering. The four seasons collection is their most expensive offering from the regular line. They come in six shades: one nude shade (created with fair skin Asian women in mind), two pink toned blonde shades, two golden toned brunette shades and one ebony shade. You need to base your decision on your overall skin tone and undertone. Ignore the hair color reference.

I spend literally weeks reading about this before taking the plunge. I was really bouncing between nude, natural blonde and natural brunette. Because nude contains a pretty unpigmented blush, and natural blonde is so pink and doesn't have much contrast between the four shades (then why bother with the four season concept you might as well by the regular terracotta and save some cash), I went for natural brunette and I'm glad I did.

The bronzer contains a generous amount of 10 grams of product that comes in a gorgeous magnetic compact with a hologram. The powder is very smooth and smell like violets. I love the idea of being able to customize my shade according to the season.

The bronzer could be used as contouring if you have strong warm undertone, but on me it ends up looking like brown stripes. I use it the way Guerlain intended it; to give me a sunkissed glow without the damage. I can use it also as a blush to tone down the redness of my cheeks when I'm wearing a low coverage foundation or tinted moisturizer or very lightly all over for a touch of warmth and then layer a fresh blush.

Even though this is a matte bronzer, it gives really a healthy glow. The powder feels so smooth and creamy and you can really blend it to your heart's content. I'm seriously impressed by this product. I really made me make peace with bronzer.
The only con I would see, except for the price of course, is the fact that it is so fragrant. If this is a bit too expensive for you, their original Terracotta is significantly less expensive and also come in blonde and brunette shades. If you can afford it this is a fantastic product.Judithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03214451397143966803noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4908918720204607979.post-7623870894641570992014-03-29T10:36:00.002+01:002014-03-29T15:15:21.957+01:00Get ready for some seriously bright pinky coral lips with OCC lip tar in Queen

I'm really excited to be reviewing this lip tar today. I've been wanted to review it since I created the blog, but I was waiting for a camera worthy of this product.
Obsessive compulsive cosmetics is a vegan cruelty free brand from the US. They have a lot of fun products, but what really put them on the map is their lip tars. They really expended the line over the years from their regular, to metallics and lipglosses. Queen is part of the regular line which sets pretty matte on the lips. Because they are liquid you can custom mix your shade. The products are not available in European stores, but some UK sites offer the line and shipping to the EU.
Coral is not my thing, I like the color, but it seriously intimidates me. I really don't know what's gotten into me when I bought this bright coral pink lip stain. I also own another shade which is a cool pink (surprise, surprise), but since a lot of my readers are coral and warm pink lovers, I decided to start with this one.
